The act of layering is a constant theme for me: I work on many things at one time, collect objects of inspiration, and use every spare time to create. Merriam Webster's dictionary offers STRATUM as a synonym for the noun of layer. Among the many definitions of stratum, I found the two that most defined my work: 2d:…a layer in which archaeological material (as artifacts, skeletons and dwelling remains) is found on excavation… 4: one of a series of layers, levels, or gradations in an ordered system. Many of my works are based on personal "excavations" and finding order.. Even in the seeming chaos of a mess of tangled string or a collage of vinyl, paper and paint, I see structure through the layers. For me, these works are a harmony of shapes, color, textures and ideas. Some are strikingly meaningful in their juxtaposition, while others are wonderfully meaningless.
